We are Open
Open to readers. Clear for authors. Built for discovery.
Gold Open Access Model
Articles are published openly under CC BY 4.0 (default), with authors retaining copyright.
- Immediate Access: Every article is made freely available immediately on the journal website.
- Maximum Reuse: Default license is CC BY 4.0, permitting maximal distribution and reuse, including commercial.
Author Self-Archiving & Manuscripts (Green OA)
We encourage authors to share all versions of their work in repositories to maximize discoverability.
Preprints
Allowed prior to submission. Must disclose DOI/URL at submission. Does not count as prior publication.
Accepted Manuscript (post-print)
Permitted and encouraged to deposit in institutional or subject repositories immediately upon acceptance.
Version of Record (VoR)
Authors may share the final published PDF. CC BY 4.0 allows and encourages redistribution.
Embargoes & APC Transparency
Embargoes & Access
- No embargo by default. Articles are open on publication date.
- If a specific funder or legal restriction requires an embargo, this must be declared at submission with supporting documentation.
APCs & Editorial Decisions
- APCs (if any) are charged after acceptance and are clearly described on the APCs & Waiver Policy page. Waivers and discounts are available; ability to pay does not affect editorial decisions.
- APC status (paid / waived / discounted) is recorded and available for audit.
Metadata & Indexing Signals
Full metadata transparency is critical for automated harvesters and indexers to recognize OA status.
Required Metadata Deposits
- DOI and license, funding, ORCID, abstract, and references.
- Data Availability Statement (DAS) with persistent identifiers (DOIs) for datasets.
- Funding information included to facilitate funder compliance reporting.
Licensing & reuse (default and exceptions)
Default license
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). This enables maximum reuse (including commercial) provided attribution.
Exceptions
Very rare; alternative licenses (e.g., CC BY-NC) may be applied only by explicit agreement prior to publication and will be displayed on the article page. Authors are advised that some funders and indexers favour or require CC BY; consult the editorial office before requesting a restrictive license.
Data, code & open research (aligned with OA)
- We require a Data Availability Statement for every article. Authors should deposit data and code in recognized repositories (Zenodo, Figshare, Dryad, OSF, domain repositories) and include persistent identifiers (DOIs).
- When data are restricted for legal or ethical reasons, authors must explain access procedures clearly on the article page.
Rights retention & author reuse (practical guidance)
- Authors retain copyright and may reuse, adapt or redistribute their work, provided the publisher is credited per the license.
- Suggested reuse wording: “This work is © [Year] [Author]. Licensed under CC BY 4.0. For reuse, cite: [citation + DOI].”
Funders & compliance (policy alignment)
- We support funder mandates: authors should declare funder names and grant numbers on submission.
- On acceptance, we will ensure metadata includes funding fields required to facilitate funder compliance reporting
Permitted third-party material & permissions
Authors must obtain permissions for third-party content used in OA articles and ensure permissions are compatible with the article’s license. Permissions documents must be uploaded at submission.
Violations & takedown (copyright and ethics)
Takedown requests or copyright claims handled per our Copyright & Licensing and Ethics policies.

Quick FAQ
Q: Can I deposit my preprint?
A: Yes. Disclose the preprint on submission.
Q: Can I archive the final published PDF?
A: Yes; CC BY permits archiving and redistribution.
Q: What if my funder requires a specific license?
A: Notify us at submission; we will accommodate funder mandates where possible (though CC BY is strongly preferred).
Q: Are APCs required at submission?
A: No — APCs are invoiced after acceptance.
Open Access is a promise: we keep that promise by publishing clearly, licensing simply (CC BY), exposing complete metadata, and preserving content for the future.
